Episode 19: The One That Got Away
SiS Productions
Through April 30

We finally know who the baby daddy is! It's & oh. Nope. Can't tell ya. It just wouldn't be fair! If you have been a fan of SiS Productions' long-running stage soap opera, you'll just have to go see Episode 19 to find out yourself.

SiS Productions' 'first name' stands for 'Sex in Seattle.' The company certainly produces other stage plays than just these Episodes, but for 10 years now, the focus has been on producing brand-new episodes centered around a group of Asian women's lives and loves. Kathy Hsieh has written all of them, sometimes with co-writers, and has mastered the format of short instructive scenes that continually forward the stories of these four young women.

Elizabeth (Hsieh), the eternal virgin, got married to Harold but was spirited away from him by Kenneth on her wedding day, effectively stopping the wedding night. She's finally living with Kenneth, but he seems to balk at marrying her. And why does Tess (Leilani Berinobis) keep bugging her to finally have sex with Kenneth?

Tess lives with Colin, who has confessed his love for her, but she doesn't think she likes Asian guys, so she's spurned Colin for Nathan. She and Nathan are now happily devouring each other sexually, so why can't she move on and forget about Colin?

Jenna (May Nguyen) finally knows who the baby daddy is. There were three contenders: Colin, Nathan, and Adam, to whom she was engaged. Adam still wants to marry her, but Jenna has too many doubts about whether she can commit to Adam if he's not the father. Is Adam too nice to her? Can he really mean 'for better or for worse'?

Chloe (Chau Luu) usually picked the bad guys, the ones who cheat or treat women as only sexual objects. Even while admittedly pining after Nathan, she accidentally hooked up with George last episode and is finding herself actually happy. Will Chloe change her ways and settle for a good guy, for a change?

This second-to-last episode (oh no! really?) is more reflective than past ones, with more revelations and real heart-to-heart moments packed into its 75-minute format. Adam (Caleb Slavens) really gets to express his emotions and show Jenna why he's still hanging in there with her. Kenneth (Henry Drew) also tries to tell the truth about his hesitations to Elizabeth.

The title, The One That Got Away, defines the episode's focus on who else these people might have been with, and explores whether they are actually in a relationship with the 'right' person. It's an open question, leading to the last episode in 2012, wrapping it all up and answering all questions for good.

Those who have never seen any episodes are helped out each time with a short recap that tries to make sure you don't feel left out. The basic story is pretty clearly laid out and the relationships are very sharply drawn. Don't worry about it. Go ahead and experience LIVE soap opera before it's too late. Don't let this one get away. For more information, go to www.sexinseattle.org or call 206-323-9443.
